Maybe the bigger question we should be asking is why the M2 comp which is based on a $35k car, costs $2k more than a base Cayman. The Cayman being a dedicated sports cars platform and produced at much lower volume than the 2 series platform which is shared with almost every car BMW makes. Not to mention it is common knowledge Porsche has the highest profit margin in the game per car sold.

Sounds like BMW is doing something wrong here. I'm going to go with overcharging for a mediocre product.

That's not what I said. That is the target price I said they would have to land around for it to easily sell out. You seem to agree with that in a roundabout sort of way.

If talking factory new condition then E36/7 Mcoupe > everything else for feel/performance. E46 M3 was meh in factory condition. Built up for the track with tons of aftermarket parts is amazing. I'd take the Z3 over the E46 for weekend car and an F80 over the E46 for a daily. E46 is good all around while being phenomenal at nothing.

Ohh I see. I think if a “real” CSL then $80-90k would be fine in terms of would I personally want one, but once it’s into tickled GT3 or GT4 land then it becomes a tougher choice.

But as to would they actually sell out at a much higher price? Probably (just like all the previous ones, minus the E36 LTW) because it would be very limited edition and enough people would want it.

Porsche profits are the highest in the industry per car.
I think what helps Porsche is their business model of overpriced options.

M2 already comes fully equipped. Go and try to fully equip a base cayman.

Even better! M2 CSL needs zero of the overpriced options that are forced upon the M2 Comp buyer.

Deduct the many thousand dollars worth of luxury/tech crap, and the budget to make the M2 CSL a serious contender seems reasonable.

Lol but how much do just “the basics” cost on a base Cayman? All of which is in M2C

Some guesses

- the good sport seats ($3-4k)
- sport exhaust ($3k)
- PASM (or whatever the term is) ($2k)
- some semblance of decent trim / surfaces $2-4K)

And you’re still sitting there with a four-banger with 300hp. Starting with a Cayman S is better but that base is ~$68k...

M2 Comp is $59k no options needed.

Cayman is $57k + $3k Suspension/LSD/Torque Vectoring + $500 seats + $2.5k leather interior = $63k

$4k difference in MSRP. However there's potentially discounts on the Cayman vs no one getting discounts on an M2 comp any time soon. So that $4k delta could actually be much less.

Unless I had to have the little backseats, I would personally take the meh engined sports car over the one based on...
