Default Smg wonít engage 2nd

So after my vanos/rodbearing 500 mile oil break in period I took the car to mt Evans to give it the business. It pulled hard and smooth and the smg was starting to grow on me. Towards the end of the drive I did a hard downshift to 2nd, heard a bang and havenít had that gear since. I tried to engage it a couple of times during the drive home and initially heard a bang/grind and now itís like itís in neutral. All other gears are perfectly fine. If I put the car in auto it would get the cog light but since doing the adaptions I canít get it to come back so I have no codes and no second gear. Iím still daily driving it without 2nd, but itís a huge pta since I do a lot of driving

So far Iíve replaced the salmon relay, donít the adaptions and confirmed the smg fluid is full.

Iím planning a 6 spd swap but would love to get the smg working for a bit so I can take my time sourcing parts.

Iíve been advised it may be a pivot pin issue but I couldnít find anything specific to the smg.

TIA

Out of curiosity what ended up being the issue?

Anything requiring the tranny to be removed is going to be a manual swap, ptech is working up a complete quote for me today.

But it worth doing a check on the smg spring that get broken!! (5$ fix )

I did the easy way swap!( didnít remove gearbox)

1- remove all smg parts
2 rtd self centering shifter
3- 3rd peddle assembly
4 clutch line and parts
5- manual tune

And happy days!!!!!!

I think you'll get better answers once this is moved to the right section, but my initial thought is a broken compression spring. While I haven't experienced this myself yet, I usually see a bad compression spring be the cause for situations where a gear can't be used, while everything else works fine.

I just recently dealt with a broken pivot pin. The first actual symptom that was experienced from this was that the car wouldn't reliably shift into 1st. I didn't drive around much before repairing it, but it's my feeling that I would have had more global issues, than just a problem with one of the gears.

@E30racer
It would be good practice for when I gather all my parts and fresh springs would give me more time to give the smg a fair shake. But on the other hand 6spd swap isnít much further ďwhile your in thereĒ.
