The late 70s version is unfortunate looking but it also looks happy go lucky at the same time:

Hey E! About the year, here in the People's Republic of California, in order to skirt the emissions regs, the sled must be manufactured prior to 1974. My fave car-pick up sled configuration would be the small body GM chassis El Camino cars made on or about the 1967 timeframe. A 383 GM crate motor makes not quite 500 ft/lb of torque but awful close, but boy howdy, it knocks you back into your seat and that deafening howl from the twin 3 inch exhaust barely muffled by Flowmaster mufflers is enough to make any gearhead with motor oil coursing through their veins, giddy with excitement! . A stroked small block is one of my most fave V8 motors.

ridden in a tricked out Ranchero before. They handle just like a pickup. Good luck with getting a good autox time.
