I just changed the oil on my m3 but I drained the oil, changed the filter then refilled.

Poured 5.5 liters into the engine and when the engine was at normal operating temperature I checked the dip stick and it was full.

I'm wondering if it didn't completely drain because I reversed the process.

Nice video, didn't see until now when I searched for instructions on resetting the inspection warning. Just did spring check up today, oil change, underbody inspection, swap tires side to side.

FWIW, I like Liqui-Moly and use 6 liters. Most BMW engines take 7, but not the S54. Sometimes shops make this mistake.

Also prefer Mahle filters to Mann.

No you didnít drain the oil in the filter housing. I do mine your way Itís less messy that way, but I leave the plug out of the drain the oil. Then remove the oil filter cap and let it drain with the plug out. After everything is drained I put the plug in sit the car down level then add the oil and filter.
