You'd be surprised. The picture was most likely taken with a cell phone, which could make the appearance of the wheel dark silver/black. If the silver wheel is selected in a bright environment, the phone would darken the exposure so the silver wheel is exposed properly, causing the darker wheel to look even darker. I've personally struggled to photograph a hyper black wheel under studio lighting. It's very easy to make the wheel look silver or black with no in between.

Here's another example

Looks decent...

and the same wheel compared to actual OE silver looks blue.

Again. You can't sit here and say for sure they are different finishes. Lighting and cameras can play all sorts of tricks. The seller may be 100% right they are the same wheels. He is however 100% full of shit on all other counts.

Looks like Bengal Silver to me

OE BMW silver is pretty hard to reproduce when people remanufacture/recondition wheels. So many OE wheels on ebay that have been reconditioned that look great in pictures, but definitely don't match the original wheels. Unfortunately these wheels are perfectly acceptable to insurance companies, so many body shops will use one as a replacement because of it.

It's powdercoat. That was Porsche Silver with Clear Vision clear but the shop that did it used Aluminum Oxide which leaves the metal very gray after blasting. Silvers show what is underneath, doesn't matter what the powdercoaters tell you. It matters how the wheels are prepped... even with paint.

The same color/clear with the wheels redone with fine grit glass (which leaves a BRIGHT silver raw aluminum finish) came out great.

Porsche silver prepped correctly with fine grit glass (300+), no clear vision

OK. So the seller and I exchanged some emails. He still says they are the right color, but I don't really expect a different stance from him at this point. In the last email to him, I conceded that we will not agree on the color issue, so let's look at the rest of the issues. I outlined all of my problems beyond the color, some of which are reason enough for a full refund/return.

1. These are not the wheels in the pictures. Even if the color is correct, these are not the exact wheels in the pictures (i.e. he uses stock photos)
-These have black barrels with tape marks, the wheels pictured are solid color throughout.
-Blue/Green sticker dots are in different location
-The damage would be evident in closeups.

2. These are refinished. Clearly not dealer take-offs as he stated.

3. There is damage. Crack in paint and 1" scratch in lip. Lips were wrapped in foam tubing so the damage is not from shipping.

4. They were not shipped in the individual white boxes in pictures. Instead, shipped in trash bags.

5. It took 3 weeks to fully deliver the wheels (front and backs shipped a week apart for some reason) Not the worst offense in the world until I realized he was lying to me, which I proved by talking to FedEx myself.

My request to Cyruline is a full refund as well as he pay the return shipping. He has not responded to my message, which was sent on Friday of last week. It is in full blown PayPal dispute mode and he has 10 days to respond to PayPal's message to him. I'll update my progress but buyer beware...don't let the sexy pictures fool anyone. This chap is nothing but smoke and mirrors.

The purchase price and original shipping is typically easy to get back. The return shipping do not count on.

I just refinished my wheels and painted them with a 2k spray bomb. Turned out great, I'd give them a 8/10 from 5ft away and a 6.5/10 up close due to some small fuzzies that settled on the wet paint it my garage. But oh well!

Update to this situation:

He fought the refund totally, PayPal made me send all sorts of documentation and finally sided with me. Wheels sent back, money is now refunded.

I'm out $80 for the return shipping.

Buyer beware with this guy.

Great to hear! Sucks that you lost a bit of money but I'd say that was a well worth $80 lesson you'll never have to learn again.
