this was a an excellent write up, thank you for spending the time to detail a lot of the maintenance issues in our touchy but wonderful cars

thank you thank you thank you!!!! ive had my e36 for about 5 months now and i just posted some pics and some people referred me to this page, awesome read, i learned alot, and im a DIY so seems like im alright, ive already put new coilovers on it and it seemed a whole lot easier than i was expecting, everyone on here told me to check this and check that, and since ive read this thread, i know what "this" and "that" are, thanks alot!!

Thank you Nick for the info. I have seen your vids on youtube and are helping me make an informed decision in purchasing a beautiful 99 silver m3. I am coming from a 91 honda crx that I've had for 9 years with almost NO maintenance. So your write up scared and inspired me into gaining the correct perspective to take on this car. The car is in a pre-purchase inspection now, and I went through all the parts I want checked with the mechanic. Will let you know how it goes, I'm hopeful!
