Default Koni strut install gone terribly wrong.

Second weekend trying to set these front struts in their collar.
Pins are line up. Call and strut are greased with my burrs or anything to inhibit them from sliding into place.
Collars are. It damaged in any way, pinch bolts are all the way out

Yet.

Drivers side seats like this... 2" under collar with alignment pin sitting in collar

And passenger side won't go past this... .75" under collar with pin sitting above collar

So wtf! I've even jack the lower control arm up with no pinch bolt and that's as far as it goes.

I'm at a loss unless it's suppose to be offset for some reason.

Mine look like your drivers side. If they aren't sliding in I would try and use a scotch pad inside the knuckle to take away any corrosion thats keeping it from sliding in. You can also use a pry bar to spread open the knuckle a bit from the slit where the bolt compresses the strut.

Try opening up the collar on the passenger side, take a pry bar or alike to expand it. You should be able to slide the strut further into the knuckle for proper seating

I use a big flat head screw driver to leverage the pinch collar up, like Nick says with the pry bar, as it's easy to handle.

Your first picture looks intalled correctly fyi.

Used a pry bar to open it up. Checked part number, took everything back a part. Checked for points of hang up.
Just don't get it. Gonna drive around a bit and check ride heights to see if that is off.

I wouldn't drive the car with the one strut more than an inch away from being seated properly.

Agreed - it's not right, don't drive it. I bet the car is sitting croaked anyway.

Take it part - lightly sand the inner clam shell and the outside of the Koni, feeling for what's limiting movement and resolve the issue - then it should slide down and bottom out, by hand. Also check the channel that the alignment pin slides down into - it could be getting hung up half way down.

Maybe you're being forced, by limited space, to try to slide the strut down at an angle and that's causing the hang up?

If you are having trouble opening up the collar, then try using a hex key:

Find the largest sized hex key where the flats will fit into the collar. Then turn the hex key so that the corners of the hex can hold the collar open.

Or get one of these:

Hope this helps.

This...knowing that its not seated correctly and still going for a drive isn't the wisest thing to do.
