Default 6th gear whine

Issue solved! It was very low on transmission fluid. Only 1/2 liters came out. Put in close to 2 liters and no more whistle noise.
-----------------

Under load, I hear a whine only on 6th gear. The noise does not happen when I'm not on the gas or lower gears. Would this be related to transmission or differential?

I have a SMG if that matters. Differential fluid changed out 500 miles ago with oem stuff.

I believe smg and manual are same transmission. As for the whine, I'd vote transmission.

Do you have aftermarket bushings for the subframe, diff, or trans?

All oem rubber.. Wonder if this a sign of low transmission fluid.

Added a video of the noise. Does this sound the same as you guys have? More of a whistle than a whine? Gets louder when I'm speeding up in sixth.

That sounds different than mine. As you said that sounds more like a whistle than a whine. My noise only occurs( or I can only hear it when I let off throttle and theres no engine noise because no load. Check your diff fluid level sooner rather than later and might as well change it while doing that. Start there.

If it only happens in one gear, I'd have to think its transmission not diff related. Does seem odd though... When was your trans fluid last replaced and/or how many miles on it?

edit: I see from the video over 200k miles on car. Transmission fluid change can't hurt if its been a while

Diff fluid was change out < 500 miles ago. It was low and dark, but that didn't resolve the noise. Tranny fluid has been about 3 years. I plan to change it out to see if this resolves the issue. No good way to determine if you're low on fluid besides loosening the fill bolt and seeing if it comes out..
