Transmissions are cheap for the E36, usually 250-300. I would just replace the tranny and enjoy the M.

Does it make noise trying to get into gear, or just take a lot of force? But internal trans problems seem like it...

If I were you, before I start looking for used trans, I'd change the transmission fluid. I use Royal Purple, and I find shifts to be smoother then original BMW fluid.

Are you sure there is no air in the system?

The clutch is dragging (not disengaging fully). Either there's air in the hydraulic system, a component is bad (such as the master or slave cylinder) or there's a mechanical problem with the clutch, such as a broken pivot pin or warped disc.

I highly doubt it's a problem with the transmission, as what you describe sounds more like a clutch failure mode than a tranny failure mode.

It seems he had the issue before he replaced the clutch so it sounds like a synchro issue to me.

thanx guys for the replies ,

since car only has 80k i think tranny should be fine imo..

i ve changed the fluid 3 times within 6 months, i ve tried two different red lines and now royal purple no difference at all

pumping the clutch again doesnt solve it feels like im not even pushing the clutch at all and i dont think syncros because when the car is moving it shifts awesome no problems at all it just happends at a stop

ive changed master and slave, no noise at all while shifting

i dont think there would be air cause mechanic bled it 4 times within 6 months and none of those tries made a difference and if there was a air would it make this problem everytime? :S mechanic said he would have realized when he was replacing the clutch if the pivot was bad .. i ve no idea what to do
