For a while it was a 98 V70XC which got the job done but was an unfortunate lemon. Once my commute turned into 60 miles each way I need better fuel economy and traded in toward a 2012 Yaris 5 door. Despite slush box, the 1.5L got great fuel economy, was peppy, was very practical (4 dogs) and at around 2200-2300 lbs, it was great on the ample back roads on my commute. More comfortable than a Fit and a better transmission than the Fiesta's auto, also cheaper to maintain than my dad's old 05 base Mini Cooper with a more practical layout.

Now I'm 100% work from home, so Yaris was sold and the E91 in my sig became the new dog and cargo hauler. Wagon and my M3 see approx 8k miles per year combined.
Hmmm see the Yaris is interesting, that's exactly why I posted this...to find cars I wouldn't normally think of as "fun" or just forget about. Thanks!

That would be cool, is maintenance a big deal or no? I hear they're worse than the M3 but that could just be hearsay...

That'd be cool, we have the Pontiac GXP here but same difference. Probably would be a good cruising car

The hype on that is unfortunately true. The maintenance is more than you think. You have to really love the car to put up with it, or shell out for a lower mileage one.

I'd say that the magic mileage where they start to become expensive to maintain is something like 70k and to get into a clean one around that mileage you'll probably pay between 25-32k.

Damn, I was hoping for a shocking cheap maintenance answer so I could justify this! But I have one car already that I love and dump money into...I'm gonna keep it that way for now haha

Keeping it real

It's fun because I don't care about it which makes driving it blissful. Tight spots, door dings, something breaking, filling up - none of that phases me with the beater.

There is something to be said for a true beater, I love my Honda products. They never break. It'd be cool to mod a Civic tastefully, I think they can be real great little cars.

So true, especially equipped with a manual transmission.

I have a Chevy SS (rebadged VFII Commodore) and it is an awesome daily, especially with the manual.
