e39 m5 strengths: looks

e90 m3 strengths: literally everything else

Revs higher, more power, less weight (both heavy af). More competent in every measurable way. The e39 is dead sexy and I still lust after it for that reason alone. But, if choosing between the two, I would have a hard time buying an e39 over an e90.

But in reality, the e36 m3 sedan is the best m sedan

Agreed on most parts, but the M5 was more of a torque monster. Could be viewed as a plus in a street car.
