I remember reading somewhere that the M4 drivetrain bolts into the 2 series (I assume because the S55 hardware shares major mounting points with anything that is available with an N55)? If so they could probably use the cf driveshaft (if they use the M4 trans) and the magnesium dry sump system from the M4.

Either way I'm pretty excited for this car, hope they can get it sub-3300 lbs. I expect base MSRP will be $50k.

all of that would be exceptionally good news

I assume it would also have the same electronically controlled diff and the same subframe tech

My next car will definitely not be this or an E46M.

They are kinda big in person. Looks cool in the render though.

I might be one of the few here but I like the look of the M2 rendering more so than the m3/4. I like the proportions better. The m4 is just going to be too large of a car. Its nice, but I prefer smaller cars. This m2 is very exciting to look at and I feel its more of an evolution of what an e46 m3 would be today. I cant say I will buy one because I really want a 911 at some point and it may be my next car after many many years in lust over it as a child. The M2 though, is very cool and I hope the green light for it is very true.

Haha. To be honest, the only sports or semi-sports (GT) cars within my buying power that really interest me right now are the GT3 (obviously), 991S, Cayman S/GTS, E46, M4/2, and maybe the next Mustang GT350. Thats it.

I think the E46 is the perfect car right now. It looks great, sounds great, drives great, won't lose much more value, is the last of a breed, and doesnt break the bank. Give me a mint ZCP M3 with an upgraded stereo and TE37s and all is good. Thats just me though
