I completely get it. You want what you want, and nice things cost money. I considered the Comp Pkg when I was looking, but wasn't willing to give up a drop top for it. So I found my color, upgraded the brakes and sounds, and kept it moving. Some thought I overpaid for a SMG/Vert back then. Now, it has fewer miles than yours and I can sell it for what I paid for it. Eye of the beholder...

Congrats!

Thanks, man! And I agree. What matters is that you get full enjoyment out of your car.

I've been a member here for several years now, always lurking, and thought that this thread would be a great place for my first post.
I took delivery of a 2006 M3 March 20th of this year from Enthusiast Auto Group in Cincinnati Ohio. It's a Jet Black coupe with black leather interior, 6 speed manual, premium package, cold weather package, DVD navigation with H/K audio, moonroof, park distance control and competition package. It was a one owner from Florida with 17,051 miles. I had EAG to install the cruse control and radio buttons on the steering wheel along with removing the clutch delay valve (not sure of the correct name) in the clutch hydraulic line and replaced the mid-pipe to improve the exhaust sound. Other than these changes the car is completely stock having never seen rain or the track. I've been looking for a M3 like this for a very long time. This is as close to being a new M3 as I could have ever hoped to find. I refer to it as "Garage Art". Let's just say that the sell price was less than what it cost when it was new.

This is good to know; I'm looking at a similar one with 148k on it; buyer is asking $10,900. Looks clean, rear subframe has been reinforced/rebuilt.

Other Comments (amount of time in the market, successful negotiating tactics, words of advice, pictures, etc.): Car was posted for 13k as is. Hit the guy up before i sold my boosted e36 m3, kept in contact with him, asking obvious questions about the car, and current issues. Once my car sold, i was looking at a 6MT 335i locally. The night I was going to check out the 335i, the seller(e46 m3) texted me saying an issue (rough idle vacuum leak) has come up with the car and he would be willing to sell it for 11k, ended up calling him and asking if he would take 10k as is, and i would fly out there tomorrow (from Utah) buy it and drive it back home. He took the deal, and i flew out the following morning. Car has papers all the way back from purchase, service papers, etc. Even has original window papers!

I was wondering who bought that. I recently picked up the higher mileage twin on the west coast.

I'd pick the one with the most detailed records, forget about mods or wheels. Run an autocheck on both, it can sometimes show things carfax won't. Bottom line: a private seller with detailed maintenance was my number one deciding factor. Have all cars inspected by an independent that knows these cars. Don't take a dealer or private sellers words even if it's a BMW dealer or technician selling. The big 3 have to checkout: subframe, rod bearings, and VANOS.

First car: what has been done beyond warranty maintenance? If no records exist beyond this walk away. If records are there and PPI checks out, this one sounds better due to mileage and less mods. With the extra 3k IMO with good PPI and records.

The second one seems to have been maintained but it's due for another inspection 1/2 by 103k. Expect this mileage to present some maintenance items like cooling system or Rtabs if they haven't been done. Mods don't help this one either but that's my personal opinion.

Have 2-3k ready for any of these cars. I've spent $3800 in my first year of ownership. I bought a 73k mile well maintained car that had all records.

Good luck with your search. Feel free to PM me with more questions, I spent way to much time researching my purchase and still do watch the market. This forum has all the info you need to know to make a well informed decision. These aren't the only 2 out there, be patient.
