The installation was a pain but the result is awesome. If you have the money, paid someone to do it.

doable without dropping the gearbox completely. you will need to remove the rear xmember to create abit more space and swing the gearbox down.

How dramatic?
I have a custom 13% kit and like everyone says it's direct and shift effort on mine isn't all that much but I think I'll be taking it off and going back to stock

A *good* SSK makes the shifting feel crisp in a way that you simply can't get with the stock shifter.

Having used UUC, Rogue, the BMW "Performance SSK" (330d lever), the Dinan "SSK" (545i lever), and touched others, I can say that the AS kit kicks the shit out of all of them. Don't bother with anything else.

Absolutely love my 30%. Had a z06 with a SSK and was really bummed on the shifter movement on my E46. The 30% AS kit is awesome.

To each their own. I know AS is the grail here (though most people I am sure have not felt many others). I've felt the AS and my RE kit back to back and prefer the Rogue. Both are great and 1000% better than stock. Both are crisp and precise, but I felt the Rogue was more of a well oiled bolt action rifle mechanism, while the AS was slightly notchier and required more effort, while not being any more precise or solid feeling. Splitting hairs, really, but not sure how you can say the AS kicks the shit out of the RE.
