Default Hit a deer with my DD this moring.

I recently started a thread contemplating selling my DD and my e46 M3 and getting an M2. I just had to smog my M3 last week and now my DD might be totaled. So now what? Do I get another GTI or equivalent, or go for the M2? Would have to sell the M3 if I spent that much.

Have you driven the M2? It's a great car at the autocross. I personally think it's a great car for DD. But some say it's a bit too aggressive.

Everyone raves about it, but I have not driven it. The big question is, can I live with it as a DD AND track car. I would probably do suspension and camber plates, but the newer cars tend to absorb the stiff suspensions better than the older ones.

I guess you could try putting up your e46 for sale to see if you'd get close to what you're asking for.

Sorry to hear. What state do you live in?

I rock a 2017 Chevy Volt for DD duties. A blast to drive and costs like 40 cents a day to go about 50 miles.

With the federal tax credit and and some state credits, it made the Volt a no brainer for me.

Good luck

I can't own just one vehicle, I get bored too easy but most importantly I hate to compromise what I want to do to and with a car because it's my DD. Doesn't help I'm in Connecticut so winter sucks.

Edit: Glad you are ok from the accident.

Sorry to hear about that but glad you are ok OP. Checkout the lease on an E-Golf. Best electric DD currently on the market IMO and fun to drive like any other Golf.

I should net mid 30's, if I return it to stock and sell of the goodies. So $35k for that and $15k from the insurance....not far off for a M2.

I'm in CA, but not really a fan of e-vehicles.

That is precisely why I have two cars, but the last two winters I never had to drive in the snow once. Just worked out that way. We are in the foothills of the Sierra, so it is hit and miss with the snow.

But you are right, it is a compromise with just one car. Maybe I should just go get a new GTI and keep the e46 M3. They are great cars.
The drawback with the two cars is the extra insurance and maintenance.

When I was driving 50+ miles a day for commuting I ended up leasing a BMW i3 - the lease cost less than I was paying for gas in the m3. And after the lease payment, it was basically free to drive.

But +1 on the Volt, my dad had one and it was a great commuter. I think my i3 payment was like $260/month or something... Hard to beat an electric car for a commuter.

And property tax. Here in my town in CT it's about $450 a year. That alone is nearly $40 a month. Believe me I see the allure of having 1 car, I just can't bring myself to do it.
