Pay out of pocket. Save insurance for the bigger things if they ever happen.

Why even have insurance if not to use it??? $800 would just about cover that Carbon driveshaft GB, if that ever happens.

not to thread jack but I got keyed too. pretty bad. Worried they will total my car if I make a vandalism claim. The key marks are deep and all the way from front to rear

Hey thanks for your input guys. As I mentioned in my original post it would be around $1000 with my deductible ($300) to get it fixed plus paint the other parts of the front end, or $1800 if I do it on my own. It won't raise my insurance since it's a vandalism claim.

Do you ever see yourself selling your car? If you don't just go through insurance and keep the $800. If you do pay out of pocket.

Yeah, I always use insurance without a second's hesitation, as I will not be selling the car. Got to get my value out of it :P

Last time I tried that, they totaled the M3 that I wanted to keep forever.

I don't plan on it, but who knows. It seems like most people think it's better to pay the extra and keep the history clean.

How do you tell that your premiums are not getting affected even though you're doing an uninsured claim? i know premiums increase slightly year on year, and sometimes based on geography your premiums can go up based on claims last season, so it seems hard to ascertain whats driving the change in premiums..

Unless you have an M3 with low miles, mint, that lives in a bubble I highly doubt a well documented repair job is going to hurt the resale value all that much. The biggest concern would be the paint matching.
