Default Got Keyed - Advice on Making a Claim for Dec Free M3

Hey everyone,

My car got keyed in the front left fender last week, and I was originally planning on repainting the front end so I wasn't super urked about it.. but of course it isn't a good feeling.

So I was wondering what everyones' thoughts were on claiming it and paying extra to paint the rest of the front end (it should cover the hood and fender to blend) or just paying it outright.

I'm looking at ~$1000 with claiming it, and $1800 if I pay out of pocket. My car is accident free, and I know this is only a comprehensive claim.. but I think it's generally better to be without any claims, in case I ever plan to sell the car down the road.

It is going hard to hide the respray (fender VIN stickers) from informed prospective purchasers in spite of Carfax or no Carfax.

There are very few VIN stickers on the E46 M3. None on the fenders and even if there were, body shops are not going to paint into the gap where older cars had them (like the E36). Paint work is not an issue unless someone whips out a paint depth gauge.

If you document what happened, and why you repainted the entire front end, I hardly doubt it will affect the cars value.

I purchased mine with a refreshed front end. It was a selling point

Just fix it. Don't try to conceal the paint.

Personally I would keep it off the vehicle history for such a low priced repair.

I would just do a cost analysis of cost now to repaint vs potential affects of sale cost.

Will your insurance costs go up if you make the claim? How much is your deductible?

^^^

From an "investment/ROI" perspective, there are prolly many better ways of investing that 800$ differential if you are strictly looking at maximizing money.
