(Most likely with purchase bellhousing from Kevin on this forum) Thank in advance for all your help!

Hey Josh; I can check for the harness tomorrow if you want. And yes I should be around Saturday. You going to the autocross?
If you use the 6 speed Harness, does this avoid any splicing of wires for the clutch switch?

A little bit. Not all of the clutch wiring is part of the engine harness. This is the factory manual circuit:

https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...switch/qhdL9rk

You'll have to splice from an existing connection for power (Pin 3) and ground (Pin 2) - haven't looked at the DIY, but I imagine the brake switch is the easiest splice point. And you have to run a wire from pin 4 of the clutch switch to pin 8 of the EWS module (if a US car and you want to have the clutch interlock).

Pin 2 is where the engine/transmission harness gets involved. On a factory manual car, Pin 2 of the clutch switch is run to Pin 7 of the X6011 connector here.

The engine harness will then have a small section coming off it that takes the connection from X6011 (black 8-pin block) to X6053 (white 8-pin block). There should already be a gray wire running there.

The manual harness will be able to handle the rest of the routing from there (X6053 -> Gear recognition sensor -> DME X60002 / Pin 20).

If you don't get a manual harness, you'd have to do that last leg of routing yourself.

If it were me, I'd not bother retrofitting the gear recognition sensor. Instead I would run the clutch wire to X6011 Pin 7, and then add a wire going from the male end of X6053 Pin 5 directly to the DME. And then do the coding to get the DME to recognize that. Or even bypass that bit of wiring and go directly from clutch switch to DME

Hi, you don't seem to list parts #17 - 20 from the transmission diagram, are these parts not needed for conversion? As in, are they already present on SMG?
Repair kit, locking - 2331750694
Hex bolt. M6X18 - 23317545769
WAVE WASHER. B6 - 23317545770
Cap - 23211222729

Thanks!

I agree you donít need the Manual Harness, itís more work than itís worth to remove and install the manual one.

With regards to the wiring. You need proper e46 M3 clutch switch in order for cruise control to work, any other e46 clutch switch will not work.

As Terra said there is no reason for Gear Identicaion Snesor, my cruise control works flawlessly without it, when cruise control is running and soon as you press the clutch or brake it disingages it as it should.

Wiring:
If you haven't installed the Gear Position Sensor (GPS) on the transmission then to make cruise control work, you need to run a wire from the Clutch switch Pin 2 -> X60002/Pin 20

Really not necessary to wire the clutch switch EWS module, we in Europe donít have that feature and personally never see the point.

The other two pins from the clutch switch, just tap into the corresponding two wires on the brake switch, the diagram is in the first post DIY.

for those that have done this, is it possible to keep (modify) the smg bell housing? if so, can you provide in detail what must be done? Im sure it was discussed in 55 pages, but I was not able to find it. Thanks.

Another option is to keep the SMG just as it is and get a CAE shifter and re-code the car. The shifter has all the proper springs and adjustments to make it work. Pretty amazing, although you have to drop about 1k for the shifter.
Have a look at this built in europe on m3cutters.
