I wasn't going to say anything but since it was brought up...

Different oils are better at different things. Motul is made of wonderful stock, but it doesn't have nearly the add pack that Castrol does. LM is similar this way; higher viscosity but fewer additives. I would use the Motul on the track as higher quality stock will hold up longer under abuse and I'd use Castrol on a non track car where there's less abuse and need for ester, but there's a good need for titanium, zinc, moly etc for day to day anti-wear. Of course they can be used however you want and any differences are small, but there are various reasons to use one particular oil over another.

Let me begin with making it clear not to you but to everyone that I didn't say Motul is better, just that there may be better oil out there. I will also add that I've been running Castrol since day one, actually still in my car now. I haven't done the oil change with Motul yet.

I haven't done extensive research or have a lot of knowledge on the subject but have done a little. I also have spoken to many E46 M3 owners who run different oils for some time now that do Blackstone analysis ect. What I can say it really isn't the brand so much we need to be focusing on but the weight/composition/content of the oil. If I made the change from Castrol to conventional non synthetic (stuff you get at jiffy lube), then I would be prepared to get burned at the stake. I'm still using the same weight oil from a reputable brand with racing background. Also with the low amount of miles I put on my car and how frequently I change my oil I'm not that concerned to test this out. Will I notice a difference probably not unless I do a analysis before and after to compare. Motul was highly recommended to me by a few so I'm going to try it.

I don't plan to sell my car so long term goal is a engine rebuild but I'm going to enjoy it as is now and continue testing parts/products that I feel may be beneficial.

Ya I probably should have reiterated that Motul 8100 isn't a "bad" choice. I was just highlighting the difference between it and TWS and how one could be better than the other depending on the car's use.

Well according to what you said sounds like Castrol is better for me. What I would like to know is if any damage would be done by using Motul for my use. With my spirited non daily use and frequent oci's I'm making an assumption that I'll be fine.

When Castrol changed formulation is when I started thinking of exploring elsewhere. If it was the same Castrol as the past i wouldn't even think twice. I've considered Liqui Moly and Total oil as well. I have friends that use Gulf and Ravenol but I didn't look into those.

Honestly, any true synthetic (Ester, PAO or grpIII depending on certification) higher than a 40 weight will be fine. All oils are going to have anti-wear additives, it's just that some have fewer than others. Some have lower cold pour points than others. Some shear faster. I just think Castrol, even with all the revisions, still offers the best all around package for our cars. For true track cars, I could run a pure ester 50 or 60 weight like Motul or some others though Castrol would be fine on the track too!

Thanks for your input Tyler, I very well could be back to Castrol in the future. At the end of the day I want what's best for the car 👍

Last piece to phase 1 suspension overhaul. Although after doing a bunch of modifications and maintenance on all my cars this winter, I think I'm on strike until we get temperatures over freezing.

Hopefully I'll have these on along with the monoball RSM's and front strut reinforcement plates soon. Then I'll just need to do an alignment and oil change.

I'll be done with suspension then for now and can focus on overhauling another area.
