Default Opinion Needed: 97 E36 M3 @$17k

New to the forum...thank you in advance for the help. Been in the market for a low-mile, well-maintained E36 for a while now. Came across this one and wanted you guys' opinion on the price. I was looking for a stock car but lightly modified is fine. The asking price seems very high from what I've seen. Wanted to get a gut check from you guys though.

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst...890840342.html

If anyone has any leads on a e36 in the San Diego area I'd appreciate it.
Looking for the following:
clean, well-maintained (I know babied is an oxymoron with an M-car) E36 M3. MY '97-'99. Lower (<150k) miles preferred. Would love to find a 4dr but 2dr also works. No heavy modifications (Dinan ok)...not a fan of Dakar yellow, Red, Black or Violet...I know i'm essentially looking for a unicorn but any help is appreciated. I'll pay for good condition and give someone a finders fee if they can track one down.

For that price you could easily find a similar car with about 30-40k miles.

I personally would stay clear of that car. Would be a good deal at around 10-12k but at that price....

Also Babied isn't an oxymoron with these cars. The main owner of my car (12 yrs) was an airplane mechanic and only drove this car on the highway. I'm still on the original brake pads / rotors at 53k miles...

Go find one then. Please. Aside from one anomaly that popped up here in Fresno, you are not going to find that.

If you insist on a lower-miles, well-maintained example, this car is a solid example. Some of the mods here are desirable and worth keeping, but all are fairly easily reversed if you so choose.

I'd toss out $14k and see if the seller bites, which is probably doubtful as there's a good chance of the seller getting more $14k in the Socal market. Though, I'd have to guess you can afford $17k if you are sincerely asking about the car in the first place.

They are out there, might take some time but if i was able to find a couple with a WTB ad then i'm sure he could find some. don't understand the animosity towards my statement.

Appreciate the responses and insight. The car is tastefully modded and looks meticulous. Seller is very nice and seems to know every detail about the car. Didn't mean to cause a conflict of interest on this board. Definitely within my price range just wanted a gut check on this particular cars price.

I am in the shadow of a buddy who found a 4dr, green, 97...immaculate condition with 60k miles and all records for 14k...not expecting to find that kind of deal though.

To an obvious extent, maintenance>miles. So that being said, wouldn't rule out the price with some bargaining involved. At the same time, unless they are truly valuable to you, mods don't add value to a car so I don't think they would justify a price hike. But it does look to be a very clean example and well maintained.

The car is mine, it's priced that way well because... Craigslist is complete crap. The people I've had to deal with completely baffles me. I've been hit with offers as low as 4 grand.

If you have a serious offer or any questions what's so ever feel free to shoot me a text or pm, I love to talk cars and will have no problem speaking with a serious buyer.

Car does appear nicely kept and is one of the best color combos for sure. Price is high, but I get the OPs reasoning. Gotta weed out the douchebags

I paid less for mine just over a year ago and mine has half the miles.

Way too high of a price for the mileage, regardless of maintenance or condition. Beautiful car though. I say it's too high, but if you have the money go test drive it. If the car feels as good as the asking price, is it worth it to you? That's all that really matters.
