Default EVAP shut off valve stuck closed code

Fd on the Peake scanner. Referencing this post http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showp...1&postcount=30, I tried blowing compressed air through the open purge valve under the hood from the vent tube in the trunk. Also did the canister inlet and outlet. I've had the car out for several cycles in the last week, filled it with gas, and it hasn't logged the code. I'm pretty sure it should have by now.

For the record, that procedure I detailed in my thread kept the p0446/fd code away for almost a whole year, but the code eventually came back.

Now, again, my evaporative monitor will not set as ready, and the cel for this code illuminates within a few drive cycles - just as before. I really need to do this procedure to my car again.

Thanks for the update. I'm OK with doing this once/year to get through state inspection.

I got this code a couple of times during constant 65mph+ for 60+ miles. It hasn't come on for a while as none of my recent trips have amounted to that distance or constant speed. For the record, it started on my car right around the 140,000 mile mark which seems to be inline with the OP's reference thread.

How much pressure of compressed air is needed for this? I don't have an air compressor and I doubt a can of compressed air can do the trick?

I don't know how much is necessary, but I had my compressor up to about 60 psi.

A wide range of air pressure is fine, but you will definitely need a good compressed air source to deliver a few good bursts of air volume. I think I had the air regulator on my compressor at 45 PSI.

One more question. I noticed you have to energize the engine bay. Without an external power supply like the one shown in the DIY pictures, is it safe to use the car in key position 1 or 2? If not, how cheap and where can I get an external power supply?

Best fix is a new valve. I got one from any wrecked e36 for 20 bucks and code went away

I'm not sure about the key positions. I just jumped a 16 gauge wire from the power block on the passenger side over to the solenoid.
