Hi Evan,

Coils were all replaced after 1 failed about 3 years ago, so they're fairly new. Hope that helps.

I don't recall the car knocking at idle. Sometimes it would "hiccup" at idle, but it's done that forever and I considered it an M quirk.

Look at you still lurking! Haha when you say hiccup would say it felt like a small “thud”? Also no RPM fluctuation?

Knock is probably the word I would choose to describe it too. It would knock and you can feel the engine just skip a beat pretty much. Goes away with any throttle input.

I've changed pump, filter, fuel regulator, injectors, coils & sparks. Kinda gave up chasing it. Doesn't do it all the time either. I catch it from time to time.

“skip a beat” is probably the best way to describe it!

I actually get this "soft thudding" with no RPM variation at idle too, but only on cold starts. I've always been curious if it's normal and what it is (misfire? knock?)

Wow, didn’t even know this was a thing until just now doing some searching. You think this part can make some noise if failing?

After a couple drives today I noticed the knock/hiccup actually did kick the idle around a very small amount. Does this changed any of your guys’ opinions?

I had an idle pulley that would make an occasional knocking sound every once in a while. At first it was very faint and at idle only. A month later it became more consistent but only at idle. I noticed it was coming from the very front of the engine and narrowed it down to the pulleys area.

Could it be felt throughout the car?
