Exclamation Brembo BBK Install Questions?

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone has a PDF for the installation of a Brembo BBK on the e46 M3?

Also if I was to remove the front dust cover, do I need any parts or is it simply a take off and put back together (without the cover obviously)???

Any tips are greatly appreciated as I would like to get them on this weekend (355 front kit with rear caliper upgrade).

As I recall, removing the front dust shields was relatively easy (removing a few bolts) and snipping only a small part of the shield. You can choose not to cut the dust shield by removing the wheel hub.

Have you ever removed the calipers and rotors from the car? If not, check out:

in the "brakes" section. You'll find enough to remove the brake lines, calipers and rotors.

As for putting the Brembos back on, I imagine it's not too complicated (I installed a Stoptech kit and it was more or less the same in reverse, save adding a bracket to hold the calipers). Note that if you're getting a used kit, and the brake lines use a crush washer on the caliper side, these are one-use items. Make sure you have a set of new ones.

Removing the rear dust shields is more of a pain, as they have to be cut around the circumference. You want te be careful not to mess them up too badly, as they are what's holding the parking brake mechanism.

^^^ correct.

Installing a BBK sounds more difficult than it is.

The entire process is actually no different than performing a simple rotor/pad change, with the addition of SS lines. The only thing that's really different is that everything is simply BIGGER; caliper, rotors, pads.

As for the heat shields, don't worry about taking them off entirely. I trimmed mine around to accomodate the BBK and that's all you really have to do. As long as you can put the bigger rotor on and have it spin freely, then you're good to go. Also make sure that the caliper will fit around the trimmed heat shield.

Good luck!
