Drive both and decide what you want I sold me E46 m3 and thought was going to regret it and miss the raw feeling, however after hearing that glorious S65 I have absolutely no regrets. Love the comfort, styling, luxuries and overall feel of the car. Could care less for the low torque, didn't buy this car for that. If I did I would be buying a Mustang..

With test pipes, the car never felt like it lacked torque. It never feels like it has to work had to accelerate from a stop and the car is more than quick enough to get you in trouble with the cops.

Personally, I wouldn't trade my E92 for an E46 Coupe. Adding an E46 would be a different story. I've had mine for a little over 2 years now and still love it as much as the day I got it.

Time to change your sig!

lol, and I wouldn't change my e46 M3 for an e9Xm.

Especially with the M5 in the wings. IMO the e39m does everything the e9Xm does better than the e46m, better still. More comfortable, more V8ish, more quiet, better at being a larger car (seating multiple people comfortably)... while not suffering from the "boring at any street speed" issue the e9xm suffers from.

Though, neither has my heart like the e46m.

Haha I expected that answer from you

No one is going to like the E46 more than you. It's a great car, don't get me wrong, but I still like my E92 more. I guess saying that it's a combo of the E46 and E39 would be pretty decently accurate. And with 6MT, it's far from being boring at street speed IMHO. Especially with a good exhaust setup. But of course everything you and I are saying = subjective.

Yeah, and who knows how accurate my opinion is at this point. My e46 makes more hp and torque than the s65 at every rpm below 8200 (as that's my redline) and weights less than an e36m, with brembos all around and a fairly high end suspension. Plus very modernized electronics. And maclaren F1 intake sounds being all I can hear when I drive it (which I prefer to any sound coming out of the exhaust pipe of any car).

It's not exactly the original e46 experience at this point.

The e92 M3 handling is far superior to your M5, as heavy as the M3 is, the M5 drives and feels significantly heavier way more than the quoted 250 lbs.

I was back and forth with that same question. Find a 2013 with way low miles no matter the costs or spring for the F80 M3. I chose the latter for many of the reasons stated, but what hasn't been stated is I will own the car for the duration of the warranty and maintenance plan. So I paid slightly more for more torque, more power of course, more tech, better interior, more of everything save steering feel and perhaps the sounds of the S65. All in all I'm happy I ordered new.

The F80 does run out of air at high rpm's, but we are talking like 7000+, not 5,000. It doesn't rev up quickly, but seems to have loads of power while getting there. I did do the Dinan tune, so I'm not sure what I gained, but it is fast. Deceivingly so. Where the E9x M3 was dead even with me in acceleration with my flash tuned E92 335i.

It does have better throttle response than I expected, but it is a turbo and it does feel it at times, but even the sport + throttle map is twitchy like the E46's is, which was surprising.

Yep. E92 is far more agile than e39 M5.

I agree with this 100%. But, I find the m5 more fun to drive hard on the street.

The m5 actually handles pretty poorly, and all the instant torque means car rotation is a prod of the throttle away at any rpm. It's an enjoyable series of crisis management events .
