However as a few others noted, Elon can be a hard individual to root for due to both his personality and business decisions, such as:
- bailing out his SolarCity company by combining it with Tesla; awful move for Tesla
- his various pseudo (if not fully) illegal tweets, statements (“funding secured” to take TSLA private, etc, ironically when he needed the stock price to jump and bail out their $1bn+ convertible notes maturity)
- a seeming lack of focus on cost control and actually producing cars consistently (which I know is challenging, but at some point it needs to happen if you are/were a $80bn market cap company)
- saying things like “$2.5bn gets us another 10 months” in an internal memo but portraying nothing of the sort externally to your stakeholders/investors

I don’t necessarily mind his propensity to want to do a ton of different things (SpaceX for one) but combining SCTY with TSLA was a major bust.

I credit his company for inspiring the “real” car companies to get serious about EVs and I think he could eventually have a great company that makes batteries and the charging infrastructure. But, it’s hard to see TSLA as a long-term automobile manufacturer

I agree on Musk and won't defend him, but once again, so many auto makers involved in sheisty behavior throughout their existence. I'm glad he inspired the real companies as well because it's painfully obvious how far behind they were. None of them are making anything close to what Tesla is right now.

Self anointed world changers deserve scrutiny. See also Elizabeth Holmes.

Musk isn’t an outright fraud like her, but there are common threads.
