Big day Friday and Saturday for my e36–

Friday half day at msr angelton w 2 other buddies in a fiesta st and s2000. Getting some de time. Then Saturday drivers edge at msr. First time on the track for my near stock e36. Super excited.

Will see how my 188k mike motor holds up.

Right hand sweepers too, because of fuel pump starvation. There's a Bimmerworld dual fuel pump kit that's fairly easy to instal, if you're gonna be tracking the car with any amount of regularity, it's highly recommended to do this.

Is your oil pump stock as well as the pick up? You can do an S54 dual oil pump setup for like 2k or so I think, or for less $$$ you can do an Achilles oil pump and upgraded pan baffle which is better than nothing. Either way just have fun out there and don't worry about this stuff too much. S52s are cheap

Fun day! No issues... but stock suspension stinks!

My buddies s2000 was all over me in the turns.

But this is what I wanted to do experience stock setup then upgrade in stages just like it was 1999 again.

No brake fade w stock brakes, mich tires great, old motor ran like a sewing machine, Suspension was super spongy.

2nd track day.....

* car uses 1 qt of oil per 3-20 minute track sessions! Time for rebuild.

* this car is terrific on track! ........ so much to learn with NO nannies..... no tc, no modern corner carving helpers!

* car is very neutral and it responds to your every input...... good or BAD ! LOL.

plans:
1 - stock rebuild engine,
2 - forged wheels / pilot sports or something a wee better,
3 - racing seat / harness / rear bar,
4 - racing pads....

then more track time.

I'd just suggest a tune for the s52 when you rebuild it. The amount of fun I have revving to 7k instead of 6500 is massive. For someone that wants to experience the motor as it was meant to be, I feel like its such a nice compliment to the car to just thrash it a little bit more.

west - agreed. I've got a few upgrades now, but afraid to rev past 6k with such a loose engine!

dinan tb, larger mass air meter, injectors, s50 intake, header, cai, and tune......

Hoping to see a nice gain in hp/tq with a sealed engine. my mech can take my car in early december..... I'm sure there will be some "while we're down here.... let's do..... "......

Yea man do the S54 oil pump and pan setup, and do the dual fuel pump setup too. Those and the rest of the those supporting mods should make for a really awesome setup.

For wheels you can't get a better deal for forged 17s than Bimmerworld TE:AL TA16, you can do 17x8.5 or 17x9. I have 17x8.5 on my car with 245 Yokohama AD08Rs. The 8.5" are 17.0 lbs and the 9" are 17.1 lbs.

Tire wise, you can pick from any number of excellent 200~ UTQG tires. It's your call but I would recommend something that isn't too intense, because in the spirit of what you said about having a lot to learn with no driving nannies, corner carving helpers, etc... A tire that is too "good" can teach you bad habits, because you can get away with sloppy driving and feel like you're doing it right when you're not, if that makes sense. I don't know how much track experience you have so please forgive me if that comes across wrong!

edit: one other thing, don't go too heavy on the rear bar. These cars like a heavy FRONT sway bar which is counter intuitive and opposite of most cars. I can't remember the technical reason why off hand, but you can search and read up on the mechanics of why it works this way on the E36 (several really good thread on this forum) if you feel so inclined. The general formula to start to get rid of the push is square wheel and tire setup, heavy front bar, light rear bar, a corner balanced ride height and alignment with lots of negative camber (negative 3-3.5 up front, negative 2.5-3 in back, I prefer zero toe all around) If you like the car now, do all of this stuff, and oh buddy...
