OP, would be easier to give you an opinion if they quoted labor hours x rate separate from parts.

PT has one of the best labor rates in the Bay Area. As much as I have love for Ramone at BM (I live like 2 mins from them), when I'm saving the extra $100s for stuff, I'd gladly make the extra 25mi drive.

I got the part cost paper back, and it was 1600 for parts, which made it 1400 for labor. My car feels great now.

Yea I feel like I would've saved 300-500 range if I went to PT. I called them for a quote so I will report back when I find out from them.

A while back I read a post about someone being quoted 16,000 for a clutch replacement from his local dealer... Makes 3k seem like a damn good deal.

Sadly that's totally and completely normal for UUCs clutch system (and pretty much their standard M.O. in all respects).

your mostly paying for labor and depending on your area that's going to be your average labor cost (here in miami good shops charge wayyyyyy toooo expensive , stupid expensive ::active autowerk) definitely if you have a couple friends and spare time i would try to tackle this myself here's a link to the steps of the whole process http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=291773

I have OEM resurfaced flywheels for sale... Much cheaper than a new OEM.

PM me.
