Default Re: The Official E46 M3 Oil Analysis Results Thread

Hi Everyone,

Did my second oil analysis recently. Car has only ever seen TWS 10w60, and is changed every 5k miles or sooner. My first sample showed pretty normal numbers, but I was pretty alarmed when I saw the increase of Iron and Chromium since my last oil change.

Car sees some pretty hard driving, but nothing out of the ordinary for an M3. Valve adjustment was done around 71k, so I don't know of any other explanation for the rise in Iron. Lead and Copper looked good, so I will continue to monitor those.

Any insight into the increased Iron numbers?

Anyone wanna join me in the GB for the WPC treated bearings and bolts? Need two people to get them shipped this week or next.

Chromium is piston rings and iron is cylinder bores. Extra fuel. Hmmm. Maybe a stuck injector causing a cylinder to run way rich, washing oil off cylinder, causing ring / cylinder wear.
