Default trunk wire harness fail (with pics)

no wonder i could never figure out why my reverse lights stopped working, why my trunk handle stopped working, why my rear bulb out indicators always stayed on, why i kept blowing my reverse fuse and why i could never fix the damn problem..

i pulled this out before but never looked within the sleeve, peeled back a lil and what do i see..

peel back more and wow, 5 wires are completely cut and 3 more with frayed insulation

all fixed, years later!!

when the trunk opens and closes the wires rub against the metal area of the trunk where the rubber hose/grommet thing is supposed to protect it.
