Awesome write up Tbone.
And if anyone is looking for a good powder coater, one of my friends is one of the best out there, a bit $$$ pricey, but you get what you pay for.

I have arc8's in 9.5ET35 in front and it barely clears. I still add a 5mm spacer just in case.

^ Apex has a fitment guide on their website, highlighting their wheels and many e46 M3 brake setups (including the 996 conversion)

I'd check there. The techs have a pretty good idea for clearance too, so if they don't have your wheel spec/caliper on the list you might be able to get an answer from calling them.

Here's the fitment guide. I have a set of calipers I'm about to refinish for this, but now I'm unsure if my street set of 19x8.5 ET35 TE37SL wheels will clear without spacers.

I have 8.5" et32 and it barely cleared, so you'll need at least a 3mm spacer for your 8.5" et35.

Damn lol, I'm not keen on using spacers but I was all hyped and excited to get these brakes on after reading your thread/updates (thanks for it btw, it's great!).

I guess it just moves a new set of wheels to more of a priority - was hoping to hold off until next year on those.

You're welcome! I don't like running spacers either (yet I have 12mm/10mm on right now lol), but I have to say, I've always been ok with running 3mm. They're very safe, leaving plenty of hub left and I don't feel them - as opposed to 10mm+ which I can actually feel while driving.
