Default Mother Of God BMW M5 V10 Transplanted Into A Lotus Exige

Quote:
The Lotus Exige already starts off as a great handling, lightweight sportscar. What it needed was a replacement for the Toyota power plant that was rather uninspired. A simple engine swap would have easily taken care of that, however, when you like BMW V10s, the project gets a bit more complicated.

The owner of this particular Exige really wanted the 500hp V10, from the BMW M5, in the Lotus, so the Exige was adjusted around it to make it work. The final product looks top notch and sounds great (see video below). I bet adding a few hundred extra horsepower to a 2000 lb. car makes the driving a bit more exciting as well.

So does it actually do anything but sit there and idle?

I cannot imagine it would be good at doing anything else. I suppose the good ole "why not" principle applies here but I am not sure how that little car can put any of that power down.

This is the kind of stuff that car enthusiasm is made of.

The engine sitting on the drive wheels probably helps a great deal.

seems somewhat unnecessary... the point of the Exige is to be nimble and light-weight...

Re: the "why not" principle... IMO a "why not" moment is when i see an E30M shell and purchase an S54 to drop in it swiftly...then out of audacity, put an Active Autowerke supercharger kit..

Or.. buying a Singer ... thats a "why not" moment. . .

bragging rights. Cool project though. Wonder what kind of modifications they did to make it work.
