^ going under the hood is much easier and more comfortable but being that you just put in a new pump, I'd leave things be. "don't fix what isn't broken", if your new pump drops gears etc this coming summer then something is obviously wrong whether it's the pump or an installation error but you wouldn't know it with the resistor in place.

Your "first gear"? Not the "cog"? Sounds like the bonnet switches.

The current gear display will flash if the two bonnet switches are not both closed. These are located down the latch holes on the front slam panel. The third switch is mounted on the bulkhead near the ABS unit (or RHD cars anyway) and this is used for the alarm.

Im guessing everything was because the hood then because yesterday when i took it out for a little warm up drive the gear flashed so i got out and re closed the hood and the blinking went away.

Its just that i dont want to be stranded if i take the M out to jones beach and the cog light comes on because of the temp. thats the only reason id figure its worth a shot it that will keep me away from problems on hot or cold days. thanks so much for you help guys.

If the blinking comes back and re-closing your hood solves it again, you may have to adjust the hood pins. At highway speeds, my hood would sometimes lift a little thus causing the gear indicator to flash/ blink. Adjusting the hood pins solved that issue.
