Spent all day yesterday trying to bring the paint back. I also took the opportunity to change over to Euro lights. I stripped all of the lights, badges, and trim off of the car. From there, I used a clay bar, then a polish, then finally a wax.

I soaked the glue from under the badges in Goo Gone. Letting it soak in while sitting in the sun softened up the 20 year old glue enough to remove it all.

It always amazes me how much crap the clay bar pulls up. This is after a wash/wax 2 weeks ago and a second wash right before using the clay bar.

Where the clear coat is still strong, the paint looks pretty amazing:

The finished product. Unfortunately the Euro headlights will not fit on the driver's side due to the Dinan supercharger. I'll have to stick with new US lights.

The wing and rear bumper needs a repaint due to chipping paint, and there are a few rust spots that will need some love (a reminder to not let rock chips sit too long!). The clear coat on the roof is also gone, but I'm on the fence about whether to paint it or just wrap it for now. I suspect a full respray is in the car's future, so don't want to go crazy with paint only to do it all over again.

More soon.

Amazing. I'm about to start reading your other threads.

I'm #3 on the waiting list for a 2016 BMW M2 at my local dealership, so right now the plan is to sell the E36 back to the previous owner. If he backs out, I really am considering doing something stupid like keeping the E36 and E92 while adding the M2, and maybe going through the same kind of restoration that you are over a period of time.

Dumbest hobby ever

P.S. Can I also request a group picture of all your M3's when they are complete? It would be a hell of an inspiration for me!

I wish the E30 was already done so that I could oblige. :-)

Purchase Bosch headlights. They will fit with standard Dinan superchargers and even Stage 2+ with 3.5" MAF and tubing.

Hmmm, interesting. You have a link to the part you're thinking of?

Since when? Are we not talking about the intake being the main culprit here? If so after market headlights will only fit with some minor adjustments. There's plenty of threads on this.
