Just purchased a 2002 m3. It's hard to compare it with anything. It just devours the highway and while your passengers hold on during turns you just give it more gas because holding power is unbelievable.

not sure if anyone has suggested this yet but how about a Subaru STI?

they are super quick, AWD, and that boxer rumble is very nice sounding.

get an 04-07 for around 20k with moderate miles and you'll be happy.

That being said, I love my E46 M3 more than my old Subaru. Just that much better in each way.

How about a S4 or S5 with the supercharged engine and torque vectoring rear diff to tame the oversteer? It's at least worthy of going out and test driving!

Well you mean for similar money? If not, then any 996 or newer 911 does everything the M3 does but much much better.

An M3... LOL. Jk.

Z4M Coupe if you want to stay in the BMW community, otherwise, the Lotus Exige, or Porsche 911, especially the GT3. No question.

A GT3 is not even in the same ballpark as an M3. Only a base 911 is similar. And honestly, 911's do everything that an M3 does. Only better. You can't understand til you spend time in one. Then you see why they've been making them for 50 years.

agreed - but it also means 911s cost significantly more than an m3, used or new.

not many cars are better than a standard Carrera S
