My car did this for 2 days randomly. I can't remember if this was specifically it but I changed the knock sensors around this time. Maybe that would do it?

You need a special scan tool to check those. Or get BMW logger on your laptop

It would fluctuate the RPM down momentarily. "Skip a beat" is also a good description of it. Car did this before and after coils were replaced, and only at idle.

I'm thinking this, too. I've had the same issue, but noticed it went away when the clutch was depressed.

The sound was very audible inside the cabin but not felt inside. On the engine itself you can feel the light tapping.
