Default Re: NEW MOTORS Available - Re: M3 SMG pump reconditioning

Much cheaper solution in post 39, currently $265 USD for the pump, sensor is under $50 from dealer, but this is good to know if you want to go new; currently $655 USD plus shipping.

I did go down the motor rewind at the same company and it failed after 1 year hence a new motor would be ideal.

Great information Steve, does anyone have any information on the replacement motor and temp sensor as mentioned by detox? Also does anyone know how hard they are to replace? Am looking at running tests as mentioned by Steve to narrow down were my faults are in the hope that the replacement parts fix my smg issues.

This would be great for all smg owners.

Is it possible to smell the motor burning in the cabin especially if the AC is running? This could be the issue with my SMG COG light being on. Ive noticed a rubbery burning smell in the cabin from time to time. A few weeks after that my cog light and service engine light came on. The car still shifts well apart from the clutch slipping when i get on the throttle aggressively and the famous SMG shudder. Please tell me the motor is a cheap part to replace.

Which company, the one in the UK or the US? Would be good to know. Also, how long after 1 year and did you ask them about any recourse?

Can't think of anything in the SMG system that would smell like rubber burning.

How many miles on the car and when was clutch replaced or how many miles on the clutch?

I'd check all the pulleys in the engine bay as you may have belt slip causing the smell, and I'd get codes pulled since you have multiple error lights.

121,000 miles on the car. I dont believe the clutch was ever replaced. I got the car when it had 79,000 miles on the OD.

What signs should i look for to determine if the belt is slipping?

If the pulleys have play, that's the first thing to eliminate. you can look to see if the belt is cracked, and you can listen to it with someone revving the engine a couple thousand rpm and back to idle; normally the change from accel to decel will cause slipping belts to slip and make noise.

Thanks for the info. Ill look into that today.i did notice the smell being very strong by the front grills the other day but it was too dark out so i didnt bother popping the hood. Plus the smell is very intermittent.

Ill call my tech tomorrow and get the codes for the SMG issue and see if you can lead me in the right direction. Thanks alot sir.
