Default Re: F10 M5 knob & boot install in e46 M3

Wanted to give a big thanks to the OP for this guide. The slop in my original '01 lsb shifter was pretty bad. In search of a different knob to go with my UUC evo 3 I came upon this guide for the gorgeous F10 M5 shifter swap.
As a side note if you live in the last decade like I did and have not put a work of art uuc evo 3 with dssr in your e46 m3 you need to do this ASAP. The difference is night and day. Gonna post a few pics of the shifter and then my progress on the uuc unit. Sadly I wish I took a before and after the broomstick as the OP called it cannot be understated and am regretful I didnt do this sooner. Will give a night shot with it lit up at a later date. Picked up the frame for the e46 boot from ebay a seller on there reproduces them so I didnt have to tear into original.

I had to grind out the delrin insert on the shifter assembly that connects to the top of the trans both the hole and its sides needed trimming for a still very tight fit. The rear of the assembly not pictured got a new tms poly bushing. While I had it apart the boards suggested I replace the shift rod joint. However the new one needed trimming also to clear the dssr as the two next to each other shows it's been redesigned. Lighter alloy material as well.

Great to see this thread is still alive and people are still doing this! Feels like ages ago. Mine's still holding up fine after all these years.
