Default BMW upset with E46 M3 enthusiasts

BMW is upset with enthusiasts

Chief of development at BMW was quoted saying this at an interview recently:

“It has to beat everybody in the segment in driving dynamics because all the Australian, UK and American journalists say ‘ooh the E46 CSL was the last real 3 Series’,” Frohlich told motoring.com.au. “I do not want to hear that shit anymore.”

Well those enthusiasts are the ones who want a manual soooooo...

Sorry. I true drivers car has always been regarded as one that is more mechanical, I feel. Electronics may make the car more responsive but it removes the ability needed to actually drive the car.

I wouldn’t consider a NASCAR or an Indy car a true drivers car. I’m talking about a touring/GT road legal car.

NASCAR car or an indy car are the definition of true drivers cars. They're both absolute animals that require the highest level of skill.

I wouldn't consider any race car a driver's car.

The focus of a driver's car is the driving experience. The focus of a race car is to go as fast as possible.

If so, and if those cars aren’t manuals, then why do people hate on automatic cars? Why do most on these forums love their manuals?

They're making every car so damn cookie cutter.. no one cares.. As a salesman at BMW, they've lost their minds IMO... put it this way.. It's the end of 2018 and we JUST got in the 2018 M3 CS... 2019 3 series will be out in a few months.. and oh, yeah, it's $108,000.

I'm waiting on these to discount -20k off sticker. When they do I'm going to buy one.

The CS sounds badass but I'm not sure it's going to be different enough than your current '18 ZCP to justify a change. Plus, no 6MT and hood is kinda funky. I would expect the biggest 'real world' change, by far, to be the additional midrange grunt. From what I can tell, there seems to more differences (suspension/diff/etc.) between the base M3 and the ZCP than from ZCP to CS (could be wrong, of course).... except for the torque output.

Are you not happy with the ZCP? Or just ready for a change? Or just find the CS to be especially appealing?
