Default What's up M3Forum Edition Nine Hundred Eighty One

I officially joined the OT Porsche club! I've been eyeing a Cayman for a while now (since before I did a Euro Delivery on my Z4) and a few months ago decided to pull the trigger. I demoed the various versions over the years and when the 981 came out I was hooked. I was so impressed by the exterior design and the interior design, fit and finish. The car physically came into its own in the 981 generation and no longer makes you feel like you merely settled for it (instead of a 911).

After I turned in the Z4 last October I started the hunt for its replacement with an intended delivery in Spring 2014 (in time for the nice weather). Initially I considered a bunch of cars ranging from the M235i and M4 to the C7 Stingray and F-type. Maybe it's all the Kool-Aid in OT, but in the end the Porsche sucked me in … and it wasn’t even close.

I spoke with various dealers over the years but when a friend and OT regular stated selling Porsches within a half-hour from me the decision was easy. If any of you guys are considering making the switch, go see Preeth (IHatePosers) at Town Porshce in NJ. The whole team at Town did a great job!

So the car ... it's easy to spend days on the configurator. And I went back and forth with a couple of things. I decided to stick with the Cayman S 19" wheels and go for the true sport suspension (20mm drop). The Carrera S 20's in Platinum Satin look great but the roads are so crappy in the NE right now and I was concerned it would be too harsh when paired with the sport suspension. I couldn't find a car to demo that had the sport suspension so I ordered it on a whim. I also decided not to get PCM (Nav) or the Sport Chrono Package (which is not really necessary with a 6MT) to try and keep the MSRP from skyrocketing. I originally ordered White, but 2 days before the order locked I changed it to Sapphire Blue and added the decals on doors. The color is awesome! (For those of you that went to (or saw pics from) the NY Auto Show, it’s the same color as the 991 Targa and Macan Porsche had on display). In the end, I'm very happy with the way it turned out!

Here is the entire build ...

2014 Cayman S
N1 - Sapphire Blue Metallic
AJ - Standard Interior i.c.w. Leather Seats, Black
P9A - Convenience Package
635 - ParkAssist (Rear)
498 - Deletion of Model Designation
CAT - Model Designation on Doors in Silver
XLF - Sport Exhaust System
X73 - Sport Suspension
480 - Manual Transmission
406 - 19-inch Cayman S Wheels
446 - Wheel Center Caps with Colored Porsche Crest
XSX - Seat Belts in Guards Red
583 - Smoking Package
P04 - Sport Seats Plus
840 - SportDesign Steering Wheel
680 - BOSE Surround Sound System

The car arrived at the dealership on Friday. On Saturday, I went to check it out in person and scheduled the delivery for Monday. I asked Preeth not to remove any of the white plastic paint protection and to just have the car mechanically PDI'ed. Detailers Domain is doing a complete new-car-prep with Opti-Coat this week (so no clean pictures until then!).

I haven't had a chance to really drive it so I'm going to wait to post driving impressions but even from some test-drives it's easy to tell the car really lives up to what you've read about it. It feels special just to sit in it and drive down the road at 35 mph. The feedback and the sounds just create an experience that none of my previous cars have offered.

Some quick pics ... I'll post some better ones after I get the car back from the detailer.

Right off the truck …

During PDI …

At delivery …

Everyone has a Porsche dammit!

Congrats man! Looks awesome, that blue is perfect! Curious about the manual vs. PDK feel. Only drove it in PDK and it was awesome. I love the blue on the doors and the black interior goes awesome with the blue

I mean this in nothing but the but the best way, the manual has a very metallic clink clank to it every time you change gear. Outside of the car you can hear it from 50 odd feet away. It's pretty awesome.

Congrats! What's the P-car split in OT? As a M3 owner I feel like I'm in the minority.
