If you're going to replace it anyway, please do us a favor and drive in S5 for a few days and do several hard starts. Not necessarily SMG launches, but very hard take-offs, then let us know if behavior changes any. This is just a hunch, but worth trying.

I just replaced my clutch while the tranny was out for replacement of the retention springs and the gear position sensor. After 10 track days in the past year the clutch disc looked decent but the throw out bearing was near failure. Since the car is progressing towards a dedicated track car I went with the VAC Kevlar Clutch Kit. It required a 600 mile break in but the positive engagement of this clutch rivals the SMG III. (3rd gear chirps on brand new Mich Pilot Sports) Non of the springs were broken but the gear position sensor cured all of the missed shifts I was experiencing.
