Looks like a laser jammer to me - any hidden buttons or switches in the interior?

Thatís what I thought, but thereís nothing in the interior. The wires do run inside the car though, I guess Iíll have to take it apart and follow the wires.

Itís not factory try to find a manufacturer or something about it that is on the box. Like everyone has said probably some kind of jammer. In the 80s BMW had a factory radar detector that you could get it had a sensor mounted behind the grill and a display that sat on top of the steering column. You usually saw them in most e24. The 635csi. Occasionally a e28 5 & e23 7.

My first M3 came with jammers also, the control unit was hidden in the opening compartment next to your knee under the steering wheel.
