Nice! Your dealer must have simply reconfigured a car that was already about to go into production when you ordered it. Mine couldn't guarantee that it would happen in the alotted time frame for me.

Live and learn I guess. I'm hoping to get another car in about a year to keep the miles off the M3. Maybe I'll do something custom then.

Custom color RS4 would be nice.

My order went in Early April...car was delivered to dealership in Early May...It only takes a small amount of time longer for Individual. This is evident in how quick my car came as well as IDZ 21's M3.

I think the big deal is whether or not your dealer has an alloted order spot at the time.

If I remember right, dynamic lights turn slightly with the direction you turn while adaptive lights adjust which way the light angles when you hit a bump or go up, down, etc. Two slightly different things.

Mine was built 2/26/2004. Individual did add 4 weeks to my wait time, but really, 3 months is about as long as it gets. Perhaps the plant shutdown in the fall would explain a longer wait? Does the plant still shut down for a month?

Hmm... well the explanation I was given was that the car could get delayed if the plant building the car does not paint that color.

In that scenario, the car (in a state of disassembly) would have to be shrink wrapped, transported to a location that does the color, and then potentially wait to be painted or have to be transported yet again after the paint was done.

it was explained to me as batching - they wait til they have a few others have the same paint code so they don't have to switch the factory after each car (assuming it is a different color).

Makes sense, but not sure if BMW has factory configured in a way that necessitates that....

All Individual paint jobs are done this way. They are not painted on the line with the regular stock ordered colors.

But that's where the 4-6 week delay comes from. As I said, a non-Individual order would have taken 2 months. Mine took three months because of the Individual paint.

I remember seeing a website has a collection of individual E46 M3's in the gallery, but I can't find it anymore...

Anyone has the link?

I think Mike has a fair selection on his Madrussian site, as does Loki on his FAQ page, but i think you are thinking about M3supercar.com which is no longer up.
however it can be accessed at the edress to follow... along with the other two sites.

M3 Supercar is inaccurate and a great deal of the pics are photoshops. Loki and Madrussian are great sources. Although they both lack in the huge selection M3 supercar has. I'm still waiting for Mike to add my car to his gallery.
