Dan will you ever provide SMG to 6 Speed Conversions?
A few weekends ago Dan bulletproofed my VANOS, valve adjustment and cooling system. He found some additional minor problems.
-cracked AC belt, he installed a new one from his own collection of parts!
-found a ground not installed under the beauty cover
-gave me an old upper rad hose from a previous job (I was told by the PO this was replaced, it turned out to be a non-OEM part and the seal failed when Dan when to re-install)
-Temp sensor fell apart when Dan removed it, again the PO told me this was replaced, they appear to have used a non-OEM part that disintegrated when Dan was removing it.
-PO also had some cheesy angel eyes installed, while everything was exposed, he removed them for me.
-helped attempt to diagnose a brake shudder on right front corner.

Dan went above and beyond and my car feels like a new motor after he re-did the timing, valve adjustment, replaced a broken chain guide and completed the VANOS work. I've only had the car for 4 months or so, this is what I imagine the engine felt like from the factory. The difference in engine response is insane. I had no idea I would 'feel' a difference from the VANOS overhaul, let alone this dramatic of one.

His knowledge, attention to detail and help with questions after the work is invaluable. I'll take my car to him for everything he can possibly do in the future.

Thank you so much Dan, lets go ride bikes sometime!

Brandon

Just got my car back from getting my rod bearings/section 3 done by Dan and I couldn't be happier.

-ordered all the parts I needed and more after he inspected the car
-sent pictures and updates with everything he did/saw that needed attention
-gave me a list of things that he saw that needed to be changed
-cleaned around the area where he was working and more!

Basically Dan attended to everything he could in the little time he had with my car. I'll be bringing my car back to him for my vanos over haul and putting on the rest of my exhaust when I get it in. Thanks again Dan!

Just messaged Dan about a VANOS overhaul. Excited to see a community member helping everybody out.

An unbelievable attention to detail and the drive for perfection best describes Dan’s work. Dan recently completed the following services for my car:

Vanos overhaul
Valve adjustment
Brake installation (rotors and pads) for all four corners
Brake flush
Transmission fluid and diff fluid change
Coolant flush
Power pulley install
OEM FCAB install
Install new exhaust hangers
Install new high pressure power steering line
Install new fan clutch
Replaced cabin air filter

He ordered nearly all of the parts needed for the work and he was happy to install the brakes that I had already purchased. As he started working on my car, he found various additional issues (broken exhaust hangers, weak fan clutch, high pressure PS line going bad, and small missing parts and pieces). Dan took care of EVERYTHING! He sent pictures of nearly everything he did as he went through the work and he kept me completely informed of his progress. I can’t say enough about the quality of his work, level of communication, and the thoroughness in everything he did, from identifying and replacing missing small parts to adjusting the valves so that they would fall as close as possible to the middle of the clearance range, even if they were in spec.

My car now drives smoother and stronger than ever before. Everything runs great! I can’t thank Dan enough for the quality of the work he performed on my car (he also was happy to give me a ride to and from BART).

I recommend Dan to anyone in the Bay Area that needs Vanos work or any other help with your e46. You will be happy if you did.

Just wrapped up my first experience with Dan. He did the following:

Bulletproofed Vanos
Valve adjustment
CPV O-Ring
Replaced FCAB (with a used one because my old ones were completely shot)
Replaced underbody bolts (lot of them were missing)

Money well spent to say the least. He told me things that were wrong with my car that I didn't even know about. Kept me updated throughout the entire process with pictures and even taught me a couple things. If you need any mechanical work in the bay area, or California for that matter, go to Dan. I'll definitely be coming back for my rod bearings soon.

Now to some pictures to show you his quality work:

Original FCAB, I don't think it was ever replaced

Getting a temporary FCAB in there until I order new ones

Here are some before/afters

If Dan has a Yelp page, then I'd give him 10 stars!

I don't write too many reviews but Dan is someone who deserves recognition for his contribution to the E46 M3 community.

I discovered Dan from this thread and contacted him around the time I got my car a few months ago. I wanted to sanitize the car from the PO with all new parts just for peace of mind and know I'll make it home everyday. Starting with the initial email in which I provided him details of the car and records I have, Dan replied with an itemized list of things he recommended to change out. At the time, I didn't know Dan had a parts guy with competitive prices so I sourced everything myself from FCP Euro for the lifetime replacement warranty. In sourcing the parts, I had many back and forth emails asking for his opinion and suggestions in which he responded to in great detail. Any other guy, they would probably just brush me off. Most BMW shops wouldn't even give you a minute unless you bring the car in and pay an hour's time + "M" tax to have them look at it.

I brought over to Dan a laundry list of items to swap out and it included items which were working just fine. Some of these items include:

*Bulletproof Vanos (PO replaced under CPO warranty once, but it was not Beisan and I was still paranoid)
*Rod bearings (nearing 100K, lead layer worn and copper beginning to expose)
*Valve adjustment
*Cooling system refresh (Got Valero water pump initially from FCP, but OEM pulley was hitting it. The Valero looked identical to OEM. He helped me get new OEM and it fit like a glove)
BTW, Dan did recommend OEM BMW everything, but I thought I could get away with FCP's warranty if something failed. Ended up with OEM and it fits perfectly.
*ALL fluids flushed. Diff, PS, oil, brake, clutch, trans, etc...
*New rotors, pads, brake shoe
*Bushings/mounts: engine, FCAB, RTAB, trans, steering coupler
*fuel filter, fuel filler hose
*coil packs and spark plugs
*PS line, Viton o-ring
*Suspension adjustment, perch plates, front reinforcement plates
*timing chain guide, chain tensioner
*Misc items I can't remember

Along with what everyone else has said, Dan provided me details each day of what he did and will be working on; like a photo blog with description. When I dropped off my car, Dan even gave me a ride to the train station and he also picked me up after completion.

I am fortunate to be along his commute path because he even picked up additional parts from me which I wanted done while I was at work on the other side of the bay. Very gracious of him to help out.

In case you don't know, Dan knows the S54 so well that he can visually identity the missing nuts and bolts that is absent from the engine bay the way only an enthusiast can. His attention to detail is what sets him apart from your usual BMW shop who works on volume. Even your top rated shops can't match the quality in service and price Dan provides.

DanAvoN7 is to the bay area like Kaiv is to San Diego.

My paranoid preventative maintenance isn't done yet and I look forward to working with Dan again.

I feel like I'm doing injustice by not spelling out everything Dan has done, but my post will be way too long.

Thanks Dan!

Shout out to Dan again. Did my headers, FCAB, engine mount, tranny mount, p/s leak and bunch of little things. Extremely fast turn around rate and worked with me to schedule drop off during his vacation (sorry Dan). Plus I got to see his upcoming upgrade for his car soon. The best there is honestly.

Dropped my car off last week at Dan's to get a couple things done. Mainly the rod bearings, a valve adjustment and a VANOS rebuild. Dan was great at pointing out good items to replace and offered level headed recommendations on what to do. Price was extremely competitive and the work was top notch. I received detailed updates along the way and many, many pictures.

Will be coming back to address the cooling system soon. Thanks again Dan!

Vanos Bullet Proofing w/ Beisan Parts
Valve Adjustment
New Coils
New Plugs
Corner weighted the car (balance TBD)

I'm really glad I got this addressed. Car has 148K miles and is a dedicated track car. We found the chain guide crack, valves out of spec, leaking valve cover gaskets, broken ignition coil.

I didn't expect any power gains but the car definitely pulls harder and is more responsive! I may not have gained power but I'm sure I recovered some that was lost!

Dan does very meticulous work, takes a lot of notes, and explains everything in detail. I will definitely go back to him to get other things done.

BTW, check out his track videos. There's fast, and there's uber fast!

Hey Sean

Looks like I know where to go if I don't do the Banos overhaul on my own, stoked to be part of the Bay Area E46M3 club now. Now I just need to beat you to 1:39s at Laguna haha.
