Default Oil on spark plug? Common problem?

Spark plug in cylinder 5 has a bit of oil on it. All others are perfectly clean
I presume the most common culprit is the valve cover gasket?
Anything else I should address, while I have it open?

Cheers

Not the valve cover itself, but one of the round gaskets that seal off each spark plug hole.

While you're in there, valve adjustment and VANOS inspection. If you've never addressed VANOS issues you could do some work there as well, but at a minimum you can easily do a visual to see if you've got a broken exhaust hub tab.

After a closer inspection, turns out the spark plug itself was faulty- the ring that seals it had a small dent, I.e. that burnt through. The dark stuff was not oil, but some debris.
Am thinking of not opening the valve cover in that case.

How many miles on the car? When was the last valve adjustment done?
If the car has close or over 65-80K miles or last valve adjustment has been more than 30K miles ago, might need to do it anyway.

Engine has 120k miles on it.
I’ve personally done 30k on it.
Will look into valve adjustment as well. Thanks!
