Default Ground Control Rear Sway Bar - Broken/Snapped

I've had the Ground Control Front and Rear sways installed for over 8 years...

I recently brought my car to get an alignment and technician advised that the rear sway bar snapped...

Not sure when it snapped, most likely while I was pushing harder and driving the car faster at Watkins Glen... I've had the car inspected on a lift for tech inspection, prior to the start of the event.

The broken part of the sway bar scored my passenger side axle a little bit but not much other damage.

Took the rear bar off for New Jersey Motorsports Park, Thunderbolt. Car ran fine without rear bar, it felt like car turned in better according to my butt dyno.

Just wanted to share as I didn't see info regarding broken rear sway bars when I did a search recently.

That sway has been rusting for years. Whoever you have doing your pre-track Tech Inspection should have seen and mentioned that.

Working the curbs hard at the Glen (e.g. The Bus Stop) is going to be hard on suspension components.

Thats too bad. Maybe GC will replace it for you. Worth a shot.

Side note your car looks epic in that track photo

How was the axle able to grind into it like that?

It's a bit rusty but I don't think that's enough of a sign that it will snap like that. But I'm just going to put the OEM back on.

Not looking for any compensation, just wanted to shed some light.

It's the axle, and part of the bar was scraping on axle enough to score it. I'll be rebuilding axle seals this winter, if it needs to be replaced, I'll do it then.

I'm aware - and have the same GC sway bar. If your endlinks are adjusted properly, they should never contact the axle.

The fact you managed to grind out half an inch of sway bar right at the fracture point kinda says it contributed toward the failure to me.

OP says he didnít realize the sway bar broke. I think it was grinding after it broke. You can see itís touching the axle in the ďbrokenĒ position

I drove it home from Watkins Glen to NYC and drove it a few days after before going in for alignment. Trip home was about 5 hours on the highway which contributed to the damage.
