Default Key wont start first go?

I have always had an issue with my key where sometimes it starts first go, but other times it will take 2 goes to start the car.

Do your keys always start the car first go?

Today, it took me 6 goes to start the car. My spare key has never been able to start the car.

I think its an EWS problem. Is it easy to just do an EWS delete, or can I recode/sync my second key?

My first thought was actually the starter going out

When it won't start, does it keep turning over or does it start up and immediately die? EWS issues typically let the car start, but instantly kills the engine.

I agree that it sounds like a possible starter issue, but more info is needed.

Scan the car and see if there's a ews code, or watch live data of ews when turning the car on. Most likely the starter solenoid going out

Weak battery could also be the cause.

This was my recent issue, same symptoms, although it got progressively worse where sometimes I just couldn't get it to start.

Apparently clutch switch module can also be the culprit, I replaced that first since it was easier.

I have the same issue... Put in a new battery and made no difference.

first turn, engine cranks but just never starts. take the key out and put it back in, starts right up. like clock work...

BMW thinks it's the ignition switch but wasn't sure and i'm not ready to spend $450 to "find out". rather just turn the key twice.

It can be more helpful and clearer to use cranking and engine fired up in this case.

I can't see this logic. The EWS module detected the key ID then passed this information to the DME, so what made it changed its mind after sending OK message?

EWS issue is no crank. The chip in the key either becomes weak or moves so the EWS blocks starting. You can watch it with INPA.

The crank no start seems to be common and someone had a fix for it but I can’t recall what it was. iirc it was something fuel related.
