Default Re: E46 M3 04 SMG won't display gear, won't start, locked in gear - Please Help

Hey guys, thanks for the tips. Car is currently at an Indy shop in Houston that I trust. So far, I don't think they have figured it out. Is there a way to check the hood switches? or just replace them?

You can check their status in INPA.

+1 This would be the easiest way to do it if you do have INPA.
If you dont have INPA, you can use an Ohmmeter to check if the switches are good (2 switches involved and 2 ground connections depending on the model year). When the hood is open, the switches are open and when the hood is closed, they're closed also completing each circuit to ground.

I had the scare of my life this morning after a 1000-mile trip from Fl to Raleigh and back. Got into the M this morning and brakes on, key in ignition first click position, moved shifter to neutral and dash display showed "1". Repeated the sequence just in case I screwed it up and same issue. SHIT!!! Opened and closed door...NO GO. Opened hood and slammed it shut, got in and repeated start sequence and gear display changed from "1" to "N"...START and ignition!!!! PHEW!! Turned her off, locked and unlocked the door via remote and heared pump priming...felt much better!!!
