Default Re: Clutch slip in 1st gear

I have the slight slip problem too only when starting from 1st when the car has just been started and is still cold. Once the car is warmed up from being driven, no slippage occurs whatsoever. 2002 with 76k miles and no CDV.

If there was a slight leak in the rear main seal, could a bit of oil make it to one side of the clutch disc and cause it to slip a bit until friction burns it off?

Almost feels like the clutch is glazed right? it kind of grips, and then it really grips. If you are on a hill, you'll really notice.

Yup you described it perfectly. And it only happens once for me-the very first time I clutch out of 1st gear for the day.

i think i got this too w/ the clutch engagement coming out of first. i also have what appears to be a rear main seal leak according to the mechanic that did the PPI on my car.

Has anyone figured what is causing this? It has just started happening to me, usually only when cold, and only once, but not in reverse. Only 35k miles and just out of warranty!

Since I posted a year ago, I still occasionally have this. Once engaged, the clutch never ever slips. And based on the fact that I do have a very tiny rear main seal leak, Im sticking to my theory that the slight rms leak causes it to slip until friction burns off the oil.

Check for wetness where the tranny bolts onto the engine on your car. If it looks a bit wet, this is probably whats happening with yours too. Let us know.
