Unhappy DCT failure - Gear light comes on it loses use of 1,3,5,7 and R gears

Hi All,

I have a 2009 M3 DCT. Every once in a while, the gear indicator light comes on and the car only works in 2, 4 and 6th gear...all others are gone, inc. reverse. I restart the car and they are all back. The SA says maybe a clutch, maybe whole tranny, he has never seen it before. Yeah, right.

Anybody else have this issue. I found one guy on these boards that did, but there was no resolution. Nobody seems to come up with a real answer. Also, does anyone have the solution to the "tin can" rattle from rear pass side wheel (very common, but nobody found a real fix) No, it is not a pebble in my dust shield.

Anyway, I dont want to dump 4K into a clutch, just to find out that it now needs a 13K tranny.

Any help appreciated. The thing has 45K on it, so a clutch blowing out seems pretty rare, much less a whole tranny. The outer clutch controls those gears, so i am thinking more electrical, as it only happens randomly and sometimes, not for a week.

Please help if anyone knows. Thanks a ton.
