curious, how many miles did you have on your clutch (smg) when you had it changed? did you change it because it felt like it was slipping? im at 60k miles... and not really sure if my clutch is slipping.

Incredible what goes on in some people's minds.

Are you going to take it back to the dealer and try to get a shop foreman to ride along with you like trixter?

I know what you mean - I don't know where they find these people. I swear I know more about my car than they do. The decision to replace a clutch is made by BMW and not your dealership or the SA. What you need to do is get them in your car. Drive around for however long it takes to get them to acknowledge that something is wrong. It's not like you're launching the car and smoking your tires. If your prob is same as mine when I took off from a dead stop, 1st gear - *light* pressure on accelerator - I could feel the clutch slip big time and you know it isn't right. Once you show them and get a nod yep it's not acting right they will fix it. Don't give up. The squeeky wheel gets the grease.

I actually just took my car to the dealer for this same problem, and they told me that they took it for a test drive and the clutch didn't slip. So then the service advisor told me to drive around with the technician in the car and try to replicate the problem. The clutch didn't slip, so then they told me to come back if it gets worse. I get this problem randomly, but it's so annoying how when you take it to the dealer to show them the problem, it goes away temporarily.

I totally agree, that's what I'm worried about if I take it back to the dealer. It does it randomly...

I bought the car from a dealership with 48k on the odo. Had it for 3 days before it started making a Jack Hammer sound. I took it back to the dealer and they asked me if I knew how to drive the car . The next day the car did it again really loud in my garage on startup. I called the towtruck to get it. Turns out the Throw Out Bearing seized, trashed the entire clutch assembly and the actuator. They replaced it all. I now have 67k on the odo an d this problem has been happening for at least a year.

The clutch may be slipping, like I said with my past experiences with clutches on other cars they will also be slipping in higher RPM's. Another good test would be to start off in 2nd gear from a stand still and see if it slips.

If still a woe have the shop recalibrate the SMG unit..the reset the faults or something like that. while it costs a few bucks I noticed a world of difference... I never have found the pulling back of the paddles to do anything..

I was noticing this the other day, and the most annoying part is the stutter I feel through the gas pedal. I turned the DSC off for the last few days and haven't noticed it again. It's a strange problem, and hopefully isn't serious.
